PCR Biosystems, a leading developer of PCR reagents, today announced the launch of qPCRBIO SyGreen® Chameleon Kit, a new qPCR kit that provides immediate visual confirmation of sample addition, alongside an expanded range of UNG-containing qPCR and RT-qPCR mixes designed to minimise carryover contamination. Together, the new products help laboratories improve workflow reliability from reaction setup through to final result.

Built on the proven performance of qPCRBIO SyGreen® Blue Mix, qPCRBIO SyGreen® Chameleon Kit introduces a simple visual indicator that helps researchers confirm successful sample addition during qPCR setup. The kit includes a yellow SampleTrack Buffer that causes the reaction mix to change colour from blue to green when sample is added, providing immediate visual confirmation that all reaction components have been combined correctly.

The colour change helps reduce the risk of failed reactions caused by pipetting errors and improves traceability during assay setup, particularly in high-throughput laboratories processing large numbers of samples. The kit maintains the fast, sensitive performance expected from the qPCRBIO SyGreen® range and is available in multiple passive reference formats for broad instrument compatibility. An optional 20x UNG/dUTP additive is also available for users seeking additional protection against carryover contamination.

Alongside the launch of the Chameleon Kit, PCR Biosystems has expanded its contamination-control offering with new uracil-N-glycosylase (UNG) formats across a range of Clara® and Air-Dryable qPCR and RT-qPCR mixes. The new formats help address one of the most persistent challenges in PCR workflows: contamination from previously amplified DNA.

Carryover contamination can occur when PCR products from earlier reactions are inadvertently introduced into subsequent assays, potentially leading to false-positive results. This is particularly problematic in diagnostic laboratories and research environments where the same targets are routinely amplified. The new UNG-containing mixes incorporate a proven UNG/dUTP system that helps eliminate contaminating amplicons before amplification begins, significantly reducing the risk of contamination while preserving assay performance.

The expanded portfolio includes UNG versions of PCR Biosystems’ Clara® Probe Mixes, Clara® Probe 1-Step Mixes, Clara® Inhibitor-Tolerant Mixes and Air-Dryable Mixes, enabling users to benefit from contamination control across a broad range of DNA and RNA detection workflows. The new formats extend proven UNG technology to some of the company’s most widely used qPCR and RT-qPCR reagents, providing greater flexibility for assay developers, researchers and diagnostic laboratories.

“Reliable results begin long before amplification starts,” said Alex Wilson, Co-Founder of PCR Biosystems. “Whether it’s preventing simple pipetting mistakes during reaction setup or reducing the risk of contamination from previous PCR reactions, laboratories need tools that support confidence throughout the entire workflow. The qPCRBIO SyGreen® Chameleon Kit and our expanded range of UNG mixes are designed to help users improve assay reliability without compromising the sensitivity, speed and performance they expect from PCR Biosystems reagents.”

The qPCRBIO SyGreen® Chameleon Kit and expanded range of UNG-containing qPCR and RT-qPCR reagents are available now.
