PCR Biosystems take on the 3 Peaks Challenge in support of children with Down’s syndrome

PCR Biosystems' 3 peals team at the top of Snowdon

2022 is a very special year for PCR Biosystems as we have turned 10! To celebrate this big birthday and a decade of developing PCR reagents, a brave bunch of our team took on the 3 Peaks Challenge. Our aim was to climb each of the 3 tallest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales, in under 24 hours, to raise money for the brilliant charity Sparkles.

Sparkles is a UK registered charity that supports children with Down’s Syndrome and has a special place in our hearts at PCR Biosystems. The charity provides speech and language therapies, funding for physiotherapy and occupational therapy sessions as well as organising leisure and recreational activities. You can find out more about Sparkles on their Facebook page.

As for the challenge, at 7.30am on 8th July our 25 ‘Mountain Goats’ began their quest – a total of 23.5 miles hiking, 11 hours driving and a climb of 3091m total ascent. At Ben Nevis they were met with sideways rain and a snow topped peak, at Scafell a dark and drizzly night climb, and to end it all, a blissfully sunny Snowdon with the most fantastic views. Whilst the team fell just short of their 24-hour target, the event was a great team-building success, and we’d like to congratulate our adventurous and determined colleagues – together with our friends at YouSeq and Binx Health – for putting themselves through this incredible feat.

To help us celebrate our big birthday, we’d like to invite donations to our Just Giving page in support of Sparkles. Importantly, PCR Biosystems will match every pound raised of the £10,000 target, meaning that together with gift aid, we could raise up to £25,000! We are immensely grateful for all the donations received thus far; every pound has made the sore feet – and aches and pains – all the easier to bear!
